2008 is an exciting year for us as we bring St Mark's into the 21st Century, and aim to make the church building much more welcoming and available.

Extension and internal reordering work is under way.

8.30am and 6.30pm Sunday services are being held in the Church Centre;

10.30am services are taking place in Colney Heath School (by kind permission)

Colney Heath: a community lying between the two busy Hertfordshire towns of St Albans and Hatfield, yet still with its own distinct village identity.

St Marks: a 'C of E' church, primarily called to serve Colney Heath parish and be an integral part of the community.

'Christianity is a statement which, if false, is of no importance, and, if true, is of infinite importance.

The one thing it cannot be is moderately important'    -C S Lewis (of 'Chronicles of Narnia' fame).

'Christianity is not one of the world religions: it is the end of religion'   - Lesslie Newbigin

Uniquely, the Christian faith is about God coming looking for us, rather than us searching for God. Being found by Him makes us not more religious, but more truly human. We aim to be a church where all can 'be themselves' in the presence of God and one another.

What we share together as 'Gathered Church' increases the effectiveness of each of us as 'Scattered Church' (and scatter many of us do, as we're surrounded by major road networks, railway links and are within a few miles of London!) So we're glad to welcome those who live farther afield too, who want to connect with God - at whatever stage on that journey you might be.

So welcome to our website: we hope you find it enjoyable, interesting and informative. (If it leaves you with unanswered questions, please let us know). It will tell you something about our life, and how you might benefit from it. Of course, the only way to really know if St Marks is for you is to come and see us. We look forward to welcoming you!
